Workplace Violence Prevention – SB553
By no later than July 1, 2024, most California employers are mandated to establish a workplace violence prevention program as per the amended Labor Code section 6401.9. These updated requirements parallel the workplace violence prevention standard implemented by Cal/OSHA in October 2016, which specifically targeted employers within the healthcare sector.
The significance of implementing a robust Workplace Violence Prevention Program cannot be overstated. Alvarez Associates, comprised of seasoned security professionals, stands ready to assist you in crafting a comprehensive program aimed at mitigating the risks faced by your organization. Our services have been segmented into three distinct elements to afford you greater adaptability based on your organizational requirements.
Workplace Violence Vulnerability Assessment
Our proprietary Workplace Violence Vulnerability Assessment™ (WVVA) has been meticulously crafted to assist your organization in fulfilling its obligation to maintain a workplace devoid of identifiable workplace violence risks, while also offering a strategic blueprint for compliance with California's recently enacted SB553 and surpassing the requirements of other states.
The WVVA encompasses the identification of potential workplace violence threats and hazards specific to your organization, active engagement with personnel, comprehensive evaluation of facility security measures, assessment of emergency response protocols, implementation of awareness initiatives, and the development of threat assessment and related training programs. Upon completion of the WVVA, your organization will receive a detailed narrative report featuring clear and concise explanations of our observations along with tailored recommendations.
Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) Development
Alvarez Associates has developed a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) format that harnesses the structure of Cal/OSHA's model plan, integrates industry-leading practices, and draws upon our extensive expertise in violence prevention. This approach ensures the creation of a tailored plan that aligns precisely with your organization's unique requirements and regulatory mandates.
Throughout the development process, you will collaborate closely with a dedicated Workplace Violence Prevention Subject Matter Expert. Unlike generic templates, our WVPP is far from a one-size-fits-all solution—it is a customized strategy crafted to suit your specific needs.
Additionally, your WVPP plan will include essential forms and logs:
• Workplace Violence Site Hazard Assessment
• Violent Incident Reporting Log
• Hazard Identification and Correction Forms
These tools are designed to facilitate ongoing monitoring, reporting, and mitigation of workplace violence risks within your organization.
